Sammie Williams

Sammie is an independent performer, teacher and choreographer ranging in styles from contemporary to commercial. Sammie completed her formal training at QUT with a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Graduate Diploma in Secondary Education. Sammie believes strongly in the role of community arts for young people and has a lot of experience working in schools and with youth from disadvantaged backgrounds.


Some of her choreography credits include the film clip ‘Balloons’ for Foals, ‘Empty Beats for Lonely Dancers’ (2009), ‘One Way’ (2010) and ‘Hands that Hurt’ (2012) for the QUT graduation seasons. As a choreographer Sammie is most interested in developing her choreographic style by exploring the physicality of combining contemporary and street dance.


As a performer Sammie participated in Force Majeure’s choreographic lab Culminate/Cultivate season 2013/14. Sammie has also previously performed for the Expressions Dance Company Education Team, Queensland Arts Council, Dancehouse, Melbourne Australia, The Place Prize (UK), the Australian Dance Festival Official and numerous independent seasons and commercial works. Some of her recent performance credits include ‘Hot Brown Honey Burlesque’, ‘Boiling Point’ (Phluxus2 Dance Collective), Slowdive (Claire Marshall Projects), Fifteen (Liesel Zink) and solo work ‘Klub Kulcha’ for Metro Arts’ Cross-stitch. Most recently Sammie performed in Motherboard Productions production of 'Deluge' for the Brisbane Festival and Seoul International Dance Festival.
